Charles County Sheriff's Office

Join us for Badges for Baseball 2014

UPDATE: Registration is now closed

The Charles County Sheriff’s Office invites students between the ages of 10 and 14 to join the School Resource Unit and the College of Southern Maryland baseball team for the annual Badges for Baseball summer camp. The camp, which is free and sponsored by the Cal Ripken Sr., Foundation, the Waldorf Jaycees and Charles County Public Schools, will be held June 25-27 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Laurel Springs Regional Park in La Plata.

Members of CSM’s baseball team will teach the participants the fundamentals of baseball while the School Resource Unit officers will provide character education in such topics as sportsmanship. Children will receive lunch, a commemorative T-shirt and the opportunity to play in a video game trailer during breaks.

“I look forward to being part of this camp every year,” said Sheriff Rex Coffey. “I am a life-long fan of baseball so I really enjoy the opportunity to combine my favorite sport with a program that teaches young people lessons about good behavior. It also gives children a chance to build relationships with their school resource officers, which will be important when the next school year begins.”

The camp is limited to the first 100 registrations. Registration forms can be downloaded here and must be completed and returned to the child’s School Resource Unit officer. Parents or guardians with questions should contact Sgt. Mike Vaughan at 301-399-0758 or Sgt. Carl Rye at 301-399-0558.
