SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY REPORTED: On April 13 at 3:50 p.m., officers responded to the 1100 block of Hamlin Road in Waldorf for the report of suspicious activity. Two children, ages 11 and 2, reported they were walking in the area when the driver of a dark blue van with tinted windows drove up beside them. The driver offered the children candy but they walked away. The suspect is described as a white male in his forties to fifties, with blonde, slick-backed hair and facial hair on his chin. He was wearing a red shirt. Based on the description of the suspect, officers are looking into the possibility this man could be the same person who offered a child candy last week on Smallwood Drive. In that case, the suspect was driving a yellow car.  Officers are working on leads and will increase patrols in the area. Anyone with information about this suspect is asked to call Captain R. Williams at (301) 932-2222.  The CCSO offers the following suggestions:

  • If a stranger approaches you in a vehicle, run in the opposite direction the vehicle is traveling.
  • Walk in groups to and from the bus stop, and always walk the same route to the bus stop and home again. That way, your parents will know exactly where you should be.
  • Don’t talk to strangers; don’t accept gifts or presents from strangers; never get in a vehicle or accept a ride from strangers; and never enter a stranger’s house.
  • Immediately report suspicious incidents or behavior to a trusted adult or the police.

The suspect is described as a black male in his late teens to early twenties. He is about 5’9”, has a thin build, and was wearing a dark coat. He is believed to be the same suspect involved in two other robberies that occurred on April 12. At 8:45 p.m., the suspect walked into a hotel in the 11000 block of Business Park Drive, displayed a gun and stole money. Then at 9:30 p.m., he entered a liquor store on Old Washington Road, produced a handgun and took money. Anyone with information is asked to call Det. C. Gregory at (301) 609-6507.
