UPDATE ON MOTOR VEHICLE CRASH INVOLVING 10-YEAR-OLD CHILD: On April 12, James Elek Maples, 10, of Waldorf, passed away as a result of injuries he sustained after being struck by a car on April 10 in the 2700 block of McDaniel Road in Waldorf. Maples was riding his bicycle in a marked crosswalk when he was struck by a Nissan Altima. He was transported to Children’s Hospital with critical injuries. Maples was wearing a helmet and was in the company of his mother and two friends when he was struck. The driver of the vehicle, a 28-year-old woman, remained on the scene. The Traffic Operations Unit is continuing the investigation.
