On May 16 at 9:29 p.m., officers responded to the 14300 block of Burnt Store Road in Hughesville for the report of two people who had been struck by a vehicle. When officers arrived, they spoke with a witness who indicated he was traveling eastbound on Burnt Store Road when he observed a vehicle stopped in the middle of the dark roadway. He saw a man and a woman, who appeared to be arguing, outside of the car but in the westbound lane – near a curve and just over a hillcrest. At that point, the driver of a minivan crested the hill and struck the man and woman. Steven Jacob Briggs, 25, of Brandywine, died on the scene. Leeann Renee Robinson, 24, of Lexington Park, was flown to Prince George’s Trauma Center but died upon arrival. The driver of the minivan, 51, of Charlotte Hall, stayed on the scene. PFC P. McPherson of the CCSO Traffic Operations Unit is investigating.
