BURGLARY: On Oct. 30 at 10:24 a.m., a homeowner reported someone had stolen an A/C unit and piping from her house in the 3800 block of Kelly Green Place in Waldorf. MOTOR VEHICLE CRASH: On Oct. 29 at 3:38 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to the intersection of Route 488 and Ellenwood Drive in La Plata for the report of a motor vehicle crash. The investigation revealed Amenidad Monteiro, 80, of Mitchellville, Md., was driving a Toyota RAV4 and attempting to turn left from Ellenwood Drive onto Route 488. Monteiro failed to yield the right of way to a patrol car being driven east on Route 488 by Officer M. Hancock. The vehicles collided in the intersection. Monteiro and a passenger in her vehicle, Aurora Polubiatka, 85, of Mitchellville, were transported by ambulance to the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center (CRMC) for treatment of minor injuries. Officer Hancock was not seriously injured; he was evaluated at CRMC and released. Officer S. Stanley of the Traffic Operations Unit investigated.

SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER IDENTIFIES ROBBERY SUSPECT, MAKES ARREST: On Oct. 29 between 2 p.m. – 2:30 p.m., a 15-year-old male was walking on a foot path in the 2600 block of Smallwood Drive West when a teenaged male tackled him and stole his Nike Air Force 180 shoes. The victim called his mother who notified police. Because the suspect was described as a teenager, Cpl. P. Anderson, a school resource officer at Westlake High School, became involved in the case. Through investigation, Cpl. Anderson developed a suspect – a 15-year-old student – who was then positively identified. Officers located the suspect at his house and also recovered the stolen tennis shoes. The suspect was arrested and charged with robbery, second-degree assault and theft.

OFFICERS INVESTIGATE SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY AND RECOVER HANDGUN: On Oct. 28 at 8:57 p.m., officers were in the 3200 block of Crain Highway in Waldorf when they observed a suspicious vehicle. Upon further investigation, officers recovered a handgun from the car. The driver, Franklin James Davis, 21, of Charlotte Hall was arrested and charged with illegal possession of a handgun.

THEFT FROM AUTO REPORTED: Between Oct. 27 – Oct. 28, a car owner reported someone broke into his car in the 10400 block of Silvervine Court in Waldorf and stole an iPod, iPad, macbook pro, and Sony navigation stereo system. The owner said the car was parked in the driveway and locked; there were no signs of forced entry; however, the front plastic grill had been removed. BURGLARY: On Oct. 28 at 12:39 a.m., officers responded to the 3900 block of St. Charles Parkway in Waldorf for the report of an intrusion alarm. When they arrived, it was clear someone had shattered a window. It appears the suspect(s) stole hundreds of dollars worth of Newport cigarettes. THEFT FROM AUTO REPORTED: Between Oct. 26 – Oct. 27, some stole a white iPad from a car in the 7100 block of Glen Albin Road in La Plata. Another car on her property was rummaged through and a third car was stolen. During the investigation, a citizen called the victim and told her he found some of her property in a trash can in Washington, D.C. The victim’s car was not in the area. OFFICERS LOCATE STOLEN MINIVAN AND ARREST DRIVER: On Oct. 26 at 12:20 a.m., Pfc M. O’Shields was in the area of Smallwood Drive in Waldorf when he ran a license plate check on a Honda Odyssey. A computer check revealed the tags had been reported stolen. The driver of the van turned into a convenience store and parked. As officer O’Shields approached, two passengers suddenly jumped out of the vehicle and fled into a wooded area. The driver was detained. A check of the car’s VIN revealed the van had been reported stolen in Prince William County, Va. Officers also recovered a small amount of marijuana inside the van. The driver, Adrian Donte McCray, 22, of Alexandria was arrested and charged with theft.

BURGLARY: On Oct. 25 between 7:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m., someone broke into a house in the 5400 block of Chapman’s Landing Road in Indian Head while the victim’s were at a high school football game. The suspect(s) stole 7 long guns from a gun safe. The guns included 12 and 20 gauge shotguns. The house was ransacked and the suspect(s) also stole a small amount of cash. FIRST-DEGREE ASSAULT/NO ONE INJURED: On Oct. 24 at 5:51 p.m., officers responded to the 2300 block of Pinefield Road in Waldorf for the report of the sound of gunshots. Officers arrived and canvassed the area and located a 23-year-old male who said he was standing in his garage with the door open when a white car pulled up and someone in the car fired several shots; no one was struck. Officers processed the scene and found evidence suggesting the shots were not fired directly at the victim but rather at his house. Further, officers have determined the shooting was not a random act and that the male’s house was intentionally targeted.
