ATTEMPTED MURDER: On November 25 at 6:43 p.m., officers responded to the 10000 block of Bramley Court in Waldorf for the report of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers interviewed the victim who advised that Antwan Jasper Thompson, who is known to the victim, lured him outside before shooting at him. After officers obtained the suspect’s name, they ran a computer check which revealed the type of car the suspect might be in, as well as his address. Officers set up near Thompson’s home and conducted a traffic stop on his vehicle as he passed their location. He was apprehended without incident. Officers recovered a stolen handgun and a mask which was worn during the shooting. Thompson, 29 of Lanham, was arrested and charged with attempted first degree murder. Pfc. A. Coulby, Cpl. S. POSSESSION WITH INTENT TO DISTRIBUTE: On November 25 at 5:05 p.m., Officer J. Brown initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle with a headlight out in the 300 block of Smallwood Drive. Upon approaching the car, Brown smelled a strong odor of marijuana. Further investigation revealed the driver, Tyrell Lamar Sherman, 19 of Waldorf, was in possession of 128 grams of marijuana, a digital scale, U.S. currency, and a handgun, and was driving with tags registered to another vehicle. Sherman was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance, concealing a dangerous weapon, and driving an uninsured vehicle.
FIRST DEGREE BURGLARY: On November 25 at 12:57 p.m., officers responded to the 10000 block of Allens Fresh Road in Charlotte Hall for the report of a suspicious vehicle. The complainant reported she observed a white male driving a blue Nissan Quest in the driveway of her neighbor’s home. When she drove by she saw the male walk off the front porch carrying a chainsaw, which he then placed in the back of his vehicle. A short time later, Pfc. M. Hancock located the vehicle traveling on Crain Hwy in the area of Crossover Road. He conducted a stop on the vehicle. When he exited his patrol car, the suspect vehicle took off. The vehicle was pursued for a short distance into a field, where the suspect bailed out. Pfc. Hancock apprehended the suspect after a foot chase. Officers responded to the residence on Allens Fresh Road and discovered the front door had been kicked in. The homeowner was notified and was able to positively identify his stolen property that was in the suspect’s vehicle. The property included a chainsaw, three guitars, and other various power tools and property. Charges are pending the outcome of an ongoing investigation.
IMPAIRED DRIVER CHECKPOINTS: On November 23 between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m., members of the Patrol Division conducted a sobriety checkpoint on St. Charles Parkway at St. Thomas Drive in Waldorf. As a result of the checkpoint, 606 vehicles were contacted and 12 citations, 15 warnings, 10 SEROs (Safety Equipment Repair Orders), and 4 civil citations were issued for various traffic violations and drug offenses.
On November 23 between 7:45 p.m. and 10:45 p.m., members of the Traffic Operations Unit conducted a sobriety checkpoint on Smallwood Drive West near St. Nicholas Dr. As a result of the checkpoint, 570 vehicles were contacted and 6 citations, 4 warnings, and one SERO were issued. This checkpoint was funded using a grant from the Maryland Department of Transportation, Maryland Highway Safety Office. A Trooper from the Maryland State Police La Plata Barrack joined the Charles County Sheriff’s Office in conducting the checkpoint.
