On May 28 at approximately 6:48 a.m., patrol officers responded to a call for a suspicious vehicle parked in a driveway in the 9700 block of Winneconne Place in Nanjemoy. The homeowner reported that the driver was not known to him, and the vehicle was parked in a way that prevented the homeowner from being able to drive out of the driveway. When officers arrived, they approached the driver of the vehicle, Clifford Scott Garner, age 44, of Welcome, who appeared to be asleep. Officers also observed drug paraphernalia and a bottle of liquor in the front seat. Upon further investigation, officers located fentanyl, crack cocaine, and a stolen Glock handgun in Garner’s waistband. Garner is prohibited from possessing firearms due to a previous conviction. In addition, a search warrant was obtained for Garner’s residence on Fire Place in Welcome, where detectives recovered a handgun, a sawed-off shotgun under 18 inches, a quantity of ammunition, and firearm parts. Garner was charged with drug and weapon violations. On May 29, a judge ordered Garner held without bond at the Charles County Detention Center. PFC Heishman and the Narcotics Enforcement Section investigated.
