On February 8 at 12:48 a.m., officers initiated a traffic stop in the 2400 block of Old Washington Road. Upon contact with the driver, a handgun and drugs were observed. Further investigation revealed cocaine, packaging, and manufacturing material inside the car. A loaded semi-automatic firearm was also recovered. The driver, Michael Jerome Thompson, 28, of Virginia, was arrested and charged with transporting a loaded firearm in a vehicle, illegal possession of a firearm, possession of drugs, and other related charges. On February 9, a judge ordered Thompson to be held at the Charles County Detention Center without bond. Officer Eng is investigating.
