On Saturday, July 7, 2018, the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, along with the State Highway Administration, unveiled two road signs located in the median of Business Route 5 (Leonardtown Road between Ell Lane and St. Charles Parkway) in memory of Cpl. Jamel Clagett, a Charles County Sheriff’s officer who died in a motor vehicle crash in Virginia on December 21, 2014 after working a midnight shift. Cpl. Clagett was assigned at the Waldorf, District 3 station. He was known as a caring officer who often went above and beyond the call of duty to show kindness to his colleagues and the communities he served.  On the day he died, he had just dropped off a surprise breakfast to police dispatchers at the 911 center.

Family and friends of Cpl. Clagett gathered in the south parking lot at Thomas Stone High School located at 3785 Leonardtown Road in Waldorf, where Sheriff Troy Berry shared a few words before the unveiling.
