On August 25 at approximately 10:20 a.m., officers were assisting another law enforcement agency in locating a wanted person traveling in a silver passenger car. Members of the Charles County Sheriff’s Office observed the vehicle near Leonardtown Road and Lakewood Drive in Waldorf and initiated a traffic stop. The car briefly pulled over, before fleeing. Officers pursued the vehicle on Crain Highway until losing sight of it near Substation Road. As officers continued northbound on Crain Highway, they located the suspect vehicle in the southbound lanes of Crain Highway just north of McKendree Road after it had struck two vans. One occupant from one of the vans was transported to a hospital with non–life‑threatening injuries. The occupants of the second van sustained minor injuries. Two occupants inside the suspect vehicle were also injured, including one who is in critical condition.
In accordance with Maryland law, the Office of the Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division (IID) and the Maryland State Police (MSP) will investigate. Anyone with additional information is asked to call the IID at 410-576-7070. This information is preliminary and may change as additional details become available.
