For Police, Corrections, Cadet

Applicant Preparation Guide

The validated physical agility test is designed to evaluate applicants’ capabilities in relation to the physical demands of the Academy for the positions of Police Officer, Correction Officer and Cadet.

– Applicants should wear comfortable workout clothing such as shorts or sweats, running shoes, and a t-shirt.

– Applicants should bring bottled water because they will not be permitted to leave the testing area.

The physical agility test is comprised of the four tests described below. Applicants must pass the physical agility in order to be eligible to take the written test.

300-yard shuttle
Applicants will run 100 yards a total of three times. The applicant must complete the 300-yard shuttle in 75 seconds or less.

Trigger Pull Test
The handgun trigger-pull assessment to determine an applicant’s strengths and weaknesses while using a handgun. The applicant will complete 4 rounds of trigger pulling which involves 12 cycles per round. The applicant must complete all 4 rounds using both the right and the left hand to pass the assessment.

Unconscious Victim Drag
Applicants will drag a mannequin weighing 165 pounds to safety. Applicants will start within 30 seconds of the signal start. Applicants must drag the mannequin 75 feet in 75 seconds.

Twelve Minute Run
Applicants will complete a distance of one mile in twelve minutes or less. This assessment will determine the applicant’s endurance ability.

Effective October 1, 2017 the physical agility requirements will change to the following:

300-yard shuttle
Applicants will run 100 yards a total of three times. The applicant must complete the 300-yard shuttle in 75 seconds or less.

Eighteen Minute 1.5 Run
Applicants will complete a distance of 1.5 miles in eighteen minutes or less. This assessment will determine the applicant’s endurance ability.

Sit-Ups (NEW)
Applicants will complete 20 full range sit-ups in 1 minute or less.

Push-Ups (NEW)
Applicants will complete 12 full range push-ups in 1 minute or less.
