Charles County Sheriff’s detectives have identified the victim of the homicide/shooting that occurred on Sept. 25 in the 9100 block of Mona Farm Place in La Plata as Mason Cameron Atkins, 18, of Deale, MD. A preliminary investigation revealed the victim and his friends learned of a party on Mona Farm Place and showed up uninvited. When they pulled up to the entrance of the driveway, they were asked to leave, which they did. They drove about a half mile away, heading to the main highway, when they passed other vehicles that were stopped on the narrow road. At some point, there was an argument with the occupants of another car. The suspects in the other vehicle produced a gun and fired shots, striking Atkins and his friend. The suspects fled and the victims drove to Popes Creek Road where they called 911. Detectives are working on leads. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call Det.
