On August 24 at 1:15 p.m., officers responded to the area of Middletown Road and Ethridge Drive in Waldorf for the report of a motor vehicle crash involving a bicyclist. A preliminary investigation showed the driver of a van was traveling north on Middletown Road near Ethridge Drive. Other vehicles were stopped in the left turn lane of Middletown Road, obstructing the view of the driver. As the driver approached the intersection, a 15-year-old female entered a marked crosswalk on her bicycle. The driver of the van had insufficient time to react and struck the girl. The driver remained on the scene and the teen was flown to a hospital with injuries that appear to be life-threatening. The Charles County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Operations Unit is continuing the investigation.
