The Corrections Division, under the command of Director Pamela Dottellis, is responsible for ensuring the security of the Charles County Detention Center. CO

The Detention Center is a secure facility for incarcerating adults. Stretching 135,000 square feet, it was built to maintain inmates in 203 cells. The Corrections Division also operates an annex adjacent to the main facility which houses work release and weekend inmates.

In addition to maintaining security, the Corrections Division also offers many programs to reduce recidivism and help inmates become productive members of society upon their release from the facility.

The women and men of the Detention Center strive to meet strict professional standards. In 2001, the Charles County Detention Center became the first in history to earn 100 percent compliance during an audit by the Maryland Commission on Correctional Standards. The facility continued to receive 100 percent compliance ratings in subsequent audits in 2004, 2006 and 2009. A Standards Section conducts audits and inspections to ensure the Detention Center is operating according to standards, ensuring a safe living environment for inmates and a safe working environment for correctional officers. This process requires Corrections Division personnel to keep accurate and detailed records of every inmate including how they are classified, whether they require special diets, their hygiene items, all mail they receive, their Inmatesfinancial accounts, visitors, the religious and education services they use, disciplinary hearings and when, where and why they are transported. Employees also keep records of employee training, mandatory visits by the Charles County Health Department and the Maryland State Fire Marshal and an inventory of every key, pair of handcuffs and tool within the facility.

The Custody and Security Section maintains inmate housing 24 hours a day. An emergency Response Team is available to respond to inmate fights and other dangerous situations that may occur inside the facility.

The Support Services Section is responsible for central processing, inmate services, the  inmate library, the commissary and security maintenance.
